Yes. Rebuilding a RAID typically requires reading every single sector of every single remaining drive in the array. Reading every sector causes excessive stress to a failing drive. Stalling during a rebuild process can result in leaving you in a far worse state than where you were originally. Shut down the system. Label each drive in bay number order. Remove the drives if possible. Obtain a quote first by phone or complete the form online. Send the bare drives (not enclosures) via tracked post with insurance to our intake laboratory in Leeds, or drop them off there (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment needed). If removing individual drives proves impossible, send the entire NAS unit.
How do I pack a drive so it survives the post?
Keep it stationary. Place the device inside an anti-static bag, if possible, then pad hard against all six faces, or use the box it came in if that survived. Obtain a quotation over the phone, or complete the quote form online. Once the quote has been received, post it tracked, ensure that it is insured for its full value, and include the printed shipping form, or take it directly to our Leeds intake laboratory instead (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment needed).
