I was surprised how easy it was to accidentally delete what I thought were junk folders but actually contained some very precious photos and files. It turned out recovering deleted files is not as easy, and I tried everything from free file recovery software to paid ones like Easeus data recovery. Nothing could fully recover all my pictures, but luckily I braved a professional data recovery service. What comes up again across the eight
- No two of the eight went the same way: ransomware on laptop, folders deleted manually, formatted hard drive, Seagate external started clicking, corrupted SD card, damaged hard drive that free software had only partly recovered data from, blue screen laptop, HP RAID-5. One never mentions what type of machine it was, just that the pictures made it home. The spread above is an average month.
- Two had previously been deemed irreparable by others (four other firms had declared one drive unrecoverable, and a local repairman had determined another user's unit was unrepairable before suggesting he buy a new unit). The first came back within a week with everything on it, and the diagnosis is free, so the cost of obtaining a second opinion would be just the postage.
- Two are related to business use and one belongs to someone else entirely: an HP RAID-5 array held by a Grimsby company for its customer, thus two businesses had been waiting for a response. Drives from server & array systems come in to us along with those from laptops. Tell us if your business has stopped when you call to enquire about scheduling and we will give you an honest answer about scheduling rather than a pleasant-sounding one.

None of these sentences were purchased, there are no stock photos, and none of the staging that review sites go in for: one author hyphenates "hard-drive", another mentions the paid software she used and spells it "Easeus", and both remain exactly as typed. At the end of your own job, we request the same of you: write a few honest sentences, and give your city or town if you are willing to do so.
