The patch · the lab

Data recovery around Hull. Sixteen towns on both banks of the Humber, and one bench in Leeds.

Very little of it arrives by hand. Media travels as a tracked, insured parcel to the intake lab in Leeds, an hour or so west of Hull on the A63 and M62. The limit is where a courier will deliver, not a boundary on a map. East Yorkshire is where most of it starts, not where it ends.

A town missing from that list makes no difference. From any postcode the order runs the same: you ring or use the form, the parcel goes tracked and insured, and a bench sees it on the day it arrives. Reviews here came from Beverley, Bridlington, Hornsea, Skegness, Grimsby and Hull.

One page per town.

Each one names the hardware people there usually post in, sets out how a job is run, and answers the questions that part of the region actually asks. All sixteen come to the same bench, and the diagnosis is free whatever the return address.

The four asked most often.

No counter to visitPosted or handed in, a device reaching Leeds is booked in that day and goes straight onto a bench. Nothing sits on a shelf waiting its turn.
Same standard, every postcodeA box posted from Driffield gets what a box carried to the lab door gets: the diagnosis free, one price in writing, and the return media checked before it leaves.
Company kit, any addressDisks pulled from a RAID set or a NAS, and anything being held as evidence, leave a unit on Sutton Fields or an office in the Old Town packed and covered to the same rule. Say it is urgent when you ring and the flag goes on the job before the box has left you.
No one else handles itYour drive is not passed to a third party and no stage of the job is subcontracted. Diagnosis, imaging and recovery are all done here, and the case number raised at booking follows the device until you have it back.

What people ask before sending it in.

Is my postcode one you cover?

Yes, anywhere a tracked courier goes. Most boxes start in the HU and YO districts and plenty more in the DN ones, though parcels reach us from far outside all of them. Wherever yours begins, the postage back is on us.

Is posting it the risky part?

Packing decides that, not mileage. An external in its own case can travel as it is. A NAS or RAID box should not: take the disks out, number them by bay, send them bare. Same for a drive lifted out of a laptop, tower or DVR. Pad all six sides. Use a tracked, insured service.

Will you collect it from me?

No. There is no van and no collection round. Tracked post beats a driver on speed and has fewer moving parts. If you would sooner hand it over, the Leeds lab takes drop-offs Monday to Friday. Servers, large arrays or anything being held as evidence: ring us and the route gets settled on the call.

I am a long way off — is someone nearer better?

Mileage counts for very little in this work. What counts is whose bench the drive ends up on, and whether you are given a straight answer about it. Your parcel gets opened and read the day it lands.

The first move never varies.

Ring us, or use the form. After that the parcel is the only thing that moves.
