The Laptop Was Finished. The Disk Was Not.
The 2012 MacBook Pro went quiet on a Tuesday evening, and within the hour its owner had the ten base screws out on a kitchen table in the Avenues. No light on the magnetic connector. No start-up chime. Two chargers, and it does not react to either of them

What causes it.
Two chargers and no response from either points squarely at the power path. Storage is not on that path. A drive sits at the end of the supply, not in the middle, so a dead charging circuit leaves it without power without doing it any harm. That left one genuine unknown: thirteen years of running almost daily. Whether a disk of that age can still be relied on is something you can test, so it was tested before he was told anything.

A thirteen-year-old disk gets no free pass
No USB caddy was involved. The disk was queried at firmware level, which is where one stops flattering itself: the SMART log, the reallocation counters, the grown defect list, then test reads working inwards from the outer tracks. Everything came back dull, and dull is what you want here — a handful of remapped sectors, timings holding steady, a mechanism in better condition than its owner expected.
A sound disk still gets the blocker
Working media is handled exactly as failing media is. On a disk in this state the blocker costs no measurable time, and it settles any question afterwards: the drive left here in exactly the condition it arrived in, and the log says so.
All the rest is done on the clone
UFS Explorer opened the volume directly from the image — names, folder structure and dates all as he described them. The MacBook was not touched again. There was no reason to touch it.
How it finished.
His portfolio and his placement evidence were in his hands a fortnight before the deadline was up. Repairing the charging circuit is a job for a different trade. The Toshiba, tested and with its condition written down, is now doing the lighter work of holding a second copy.
