Personal Computer Hard Drive Problems:

PCs are versatile and easily upgradable machines that many of us have in our homes, offices and on the floors of many large corporations throughout the world. These machines are easily upgradable and as such can operate with a different hard drive than the one that was originally installed in them. Sometimes a hard drive can be replaced because of an error that one person might consider irreparable whilst another might find that the problem can be repaired with some effort. Having said that however the general consensus is that if a PC hard drive fails it is best to recover the data (if it has not been successfully backed up) and then have the drive replaced.

PC Hard Drive Failure at Motherboard Level:

Hard drives have to be connected to the motherboard in order for them to work in conjunction with the rest of the PC. To this end if a hard drive develops a fault in the printed circuitry connected to it then it may not send or receive information or instructions from the motherboard it is connected to. Firmware can be the cause of this problem occurring and as such faulty firmware can sometimes be replaced. However if you are unsure as to how to replace or upgrade firmware it is advisable that you seek help in doing so. Other problems such as damaged ribbon cables can cause a breakdown in communication between the two devices and may also cause a lapse in the storage of data that has been created by you, the user. If you feel that the problems you are encountering are possibly caused by a motherboard/hard drive conflict please contact us and we will be happy to offer you a diagnosis and advice on how to proceed.

PC Hard Drive Master/Slave Failure:

Every PC has a master and a slave. This may manifest as two hard drives; one for booting up and the other for the saving of data. Or a CD/DVD ROM drive that operates as a slave also. During startup the BIOS will determine which of the devices attached via ribbon cable are operating as master and slave; this is also determined by the way in which the jumpers are set on each device. If there are any errors on the drive operating as the master (the drive on which the operating system resides) then you may find you are unable to complete the boot-up process and continually go around in a loop, being asked to select the last good configuration. As many individuals are not sure as to how to configure the BIOS or are simply concerned with making matters worse it is best to consult the experts. We at www.hull-datarecovery.co.uk are on hand to help you with any master/slave issues you may encounter and also help recover data that could be lost as a result of faulty drives.

PC Hard Drive and Device Firmware Issues:

It is hard to believe that something as small and relatively unknown as firmware can be so important in the performance of your PC. The firmware program has been created by the manufacturer of the hard drive in order for it to function correctly alongside a variety of other devices such as the motherboard and also any slave devices it might be attached to such as CD or DVD/ROM drives. Occasionally you may find that the firmware that has been factory set to your hard drive is out of date or is no longer valid and an update may be required but not all updates are simply a case of downloading an executable file and installing it. If you find that an update has rendered your drive inoperable or indeed existing firmware is causing conflicts then you should contact us at www.hull-datarecovery.co.uk

PC Hard Drive Not Recognised and Reporting Errors by Operating System:

If you have ever checked in the MY Computer section of Windows and found that one or other of your hard drives (should you have more than one installed) is not visible then this is the first sign that there is a problem with the drive or how it conforms to Windows. It may be that the disk appears after a few seconds but this is still something to bear in mind as a precursor to a potential problem as most PCs automatically detect any device attached to them. Likewise if a drive is visible but when clicked on is non responsive then it is safe to assume that a problem has either occurred or is about to. To avoid potentially data loss we heartily recommend shutting your computer down in the correct manner and seeking professional advice. At www.hull-datarecovery.co.uk we can help you on the right track to securing your data and possibly repairing your hard drive if a repair is possible
